Don't really see the difference between 2010 and 2009, but I have to upgrade since my CPA does. It works well, I like syncing with bank of america, other banks also sync with it.

I've used Quickbooks and their payroll service for the last five years or so with my small business. Yesterday I upgraded from 2007 to this 2010 Premier version. Not because I needed any new functionality, but because their payroll service no longer supports 2007. I guess I understand that - they can't support old code forever.

Unfortunately, the Quickbooks product line seems to be going quickly downhill. I very much resented having to pay for an upgrade with new features that only work if I pay intuit more. Intuit makes a fine corporate example of how to annoy your current customer base and drive them away.

After downloading the software from Amazon, I had to fill out an Intuit survey about my company to register it. After filling out the survey, you have to call a toll-free number to an India-based support desk where they ask you the SAME questions. I've done this a couple of times with my 2007 version and today with 2010 - each time I am told the computer system is running slow, and while they are waiting for my registration confirmation, would it be OK if they chat with me about my company? This is a thinly veiled attempt to sell you more services from Intuit that becomes more and more pushy as you decline - and I think this sales opportunity is the real reason you can't just register over the internet like every other modern piece of software.

The best features that have been added in the last few years have been crippled by the requirement that they be based on Intuit's additional services. For instance, I run a paperless company. We scan all receipts, invoices, etc and store them digitally. One of the new 2010 features is the ability to link that document to your quickbook entries...but only if you store the document on Intuit's servers! Why would I trust and pay intuit to hold all my critical and sensitive information when I have that problem solved using a local server that I invested heavily into? Why can't I use, other, more trusted cloud storage vendors such as Amazon? Same thing with improvements to the time tracking software. If you don't use the web version with a monthly fee, be prepared to use a crummy interface that intuit mostly abandoned years ago.

Finally, the software STILL feels like it's stuck in the windows 3.1 world. I can't, for instance, open two invoices side by side to compare them onscreen - you can only have one invoice open at a time. That's something we need to do all the time. It seems clear that from 2007 to 2010, features don't get added unless it profits Intuit. Usability issues don't get addressed.

My recommendation is that if you have not invested in a financial package for your company, you look at Peachtree or one of the other competitors. If you have to upgrade to avoid the pain of migrating your financials to another package, you have my condolences. I'll be positioning my company in the next year or two to move away from Quickbooks. This service space is ripe for someone to step in, treat customers better and eat Intuit's lunch.

Be very aware, Quickbooks has CHANGED their support policy. I have been a quickbooks users for many years. In the last version I purchased they allowed 1 free month of customer support. I was expanding our use of Quickbooks and knew I would have questions so I purchased the new version thinking I would have the same 1 month. NO WAY. They now require you first to supply your request online, get a case number, then call in only to be told they will not answer any support questions unless you purchase theiur $79.00 support plan for 1 month or they have even more expensive versions. If I had known this I would have stayed with our 2008 version of Quckbooks and just purchased the $79. Now I'm out the $237 and still will have to pay the $79.00

The Quick books product itself is good. That support cost more than the software is bad. That two days after I registered the software and every day since, we have been slammed by vendors calling to sell us credit card processing and other services is terrible. All of the spam phone calls have been for services that we declined during the REQUIRED registration phone call, which was more of a sales pitch. In between every question verifying the purchase the Intuit Rep tried to sell us another service, despite our repeated attempts to decline all such additional products.
If you can manage the software it is good, if you need to call for help plan to add a lot to your budget.

I'm a young attorney running a small practice with a partner. I consider myself fairly technologically adept and this is by far the most frustrating piece of software I've ever encountered. I've been using Quickbooks 2009/2010 for just over a year and I have had to contact customer services nearly a half dozen times, for issues relating to license verification or otherwise being locked out of the software.

Once you're in the program, the software is counter-intuitive and requires you sit through several tutorials before you're ready to start invoicing clients. If you buy this product, get ready to bookmark dozens of online forums for technical support or pay Intuit's extortionist rates for customer service. Once you learn your way around, you discover very interesting customization options, all of which you must pay additional fees to acquire (you can't even print checks with paying a fee!). I'm thoroughly convinced the software is just a portal designed to increase Intuit's customer support and customization revenues. I've discovered other options tailored specifically for attorneys, all of which INCLUDE customer support in the purchase price and seem much more intuitive and easy to use.

The only positive thing I have to say is that I purchased QB 2009 in the summer of 2009 and was allowed to "upgrade" to the 2010 version for about $30.
