None of the so called "this is all you need" books are enough to pass without other aids. I used this and Barton's book "Sams Teach Yourself Windows 98 MCSE..." to pass the exam first time. Both books are good. Both cover topics the other does not. If you use both books, refer to the Windows 98 Res Kit for clarification of issues, take whatever sample prep tests you can find (I used only the downloadable PEP from microsoft.com/train_cert/ and the CD from this book), you will pass the exam. A great book, but not enough July 28, 1999 I used this book as my primary means to passing the Win98 exam. However, just to warn you, I feel that this book doesn;t cover enough juice on Novell Netware which is the core of Win98 exam. Also, the mispelling on this book makes you wander if they were just quickly revising the Win95 version and rushed the book to the market. I used the exam cram, Readiness review and accelerated MCSE books, too. Exam cram is a must read, especially on their TCP/IP concept and Netware. Overall Sybex is an OK book compared to other Win98 Study guides. A great resource if you're planning to take the exam. February 13, 1999 This book does just what it's intended to do; it familiarizes the reader with all of the areas that are tested by Microsoft's Win98 MCP Exam. There are areas in which I would have liked more in-depth information, but as these areas are beyond the scope of the exam, they are also beyond the scope of this book. In fact, there is quite a bit of extra information in this book that isn't necessarily tested on the exam; it's presented to help the reader truly understand the material, rather than just memorizing acronyms and tables. Combine this book with the Exam Cram MCSE Windows 98 book for a great team. I used the Sybex book to study and the Exam Cram book to review, and found they complemented each other nicely - and helped me pass the exam with flying colors! clear, concise, accurate August 28, 2001 S. J. Bennett (New Zealand) I sat the 70-098 exam in August 2001, and passed with 80 percent. (the required is 68) I read this book from cover to cover twice, and then I read the Microsoft Self Paced Training book once. The two books were very similar in content, but the Sybex book had a much better format and was probably the only one neccessary to pass the exam. Do the review questions, but they are a bit easy compared to the exam, so definitely try some other questions off the net to identify any weak areas, and then re-read that part of the book. The reason I still gave it 3 stars is that it is just as good as the other 2 books I have read on the same subject; the standard for these books seems to be fairly low considering their grandiose claims. If you are trying to pass these tests on your own, then this book is fine... as long as it's not your only source. I have found no book that is sufficient by itself; you might be able to pass the test, but you will not have been exposed to all the material if you buy only one book. Buy any two good ones (SAMS has a good one) and then review with the book from the Exam Cram series. If you grasp all of the material in those sources, you will perform very well on the test.
